Moms and their competition

Last week I was on FB group page where mothers where debating car seats. One mom was looking for a mid-priced seat that had good reviews. I commented about the cosco scenera. The seat is in the top ten for the safest. But, I was raked over the coals because the seat only goes to 40 lbs (backwards facing as well as forward). This seat is also around 50-70 dollars. The moms keep raving about a seat that was in the 200.00 range. I kept stating that I have two to buy since I have twins. But none-the-less the moms wouldn't let up about the what they thought was a fact, I needed the expensive seats. They were saying that I would have to buy another seat later on so why not go ahead and spend the money. Well, these ladies were all for rear facing till your child is in middle school (okay maybe not middle school but 80 lbs is a bit old for a child to be in a babies car seat). My four year old is in a high back booster, with a seat belt on, and he is only 38 lbs. I couldn't imagine him still in a regular car seat at this point. He'd totally protest. Is he safe in the van? Yes, he is. Would he be safer in another car seat? Who knows. I don't have the time to research car crash rating and such. Does that make me the evil mom who doesn't care about her children's safety and who should be burned at the stake? Heck NO.
Do what you think is best for your child and your situation! Not everyone can afford expensive car seats and really, they aren't needed. The most important thing is that your child is actually in a car seat properly installed.

  1. Okay I know this doesn't make me an expert for sure, HOWEVER, I watch a youtube vlog family called the Shaytards. Their three year old is in a high back booster & I think she weighs a little less than your son. Do not worry about other "moms" you are the only mom that matters to your kids.
